Varsity Football

October 5, 2011:

With half the season complete, the Bobcats have turned things around and look to be headed for another playoff run.  The month of September was very kind to Coach Hawkins' squad as they went an impressive 4-1 during the month, with wins over Columbia, Germantown High School, East Rankin, and Copiah.  The only loss came in a very spirited affair against #2 ranked, Jackson Prep.  Several players have stepped up and the offense has hit another gear, averaging over 30 points a contest in the month of September.  The four remaining contests should be very compelling match-ups as PCS travels to Hillcrest on the 7th and Parklane on the 14th, for a very heated contest.  The 'Cats then return home for their final two games, welcoming Oak Forest on the 21st in the annual homecoming game.  Then the season will conclude with a great match-up as the upstart Volunteers from Starkville Academy make the long road trip to Hattiesburg.  Our hopes are high and we're behind you guys all the way...ALL THE WAY TO STATE!

September 6, 2011:

We are now 3 weeks into the season and our Bobcats have gotten off to a slow start.  After dropping the season-opener at JA, PCS returned home for games against local rivals, Simpson Academy and Columbia Academy.  The Simpson defense would make the Bobcats work hard for every yard as they controlled the tempo most of the evening.  Our Bobcats would fight hard but come up short, losing 24-0, to a very impressive Simpson Academy football team.  PCS would get back on the right track the following week.  As the calendar turned to September, the PCS offense turned up the heat.  When Columbia Academy came to town, the Bobcats would start scoring early, often, and in a variety of ways.  A renewed 'Cats ground attack would lead the way to a PCS 42-7 victory.  Paced by Blake Graves' 2 touchdowns, Stephen Jones, Hunter Hawkins, Tyler Young, and Lee Sigrest also had great nights for Coach Hawkins' offensive squad.  Special teams also played a key role in keeping the Cougars at bay.  Robbie Broadhead recovered a botched punt attempt in the endzone for 6 points and sophomore kicker, Troy Waites added 5 extra points while booming several kick-offs in for touchbacks.

The Bobcats (1-2) will next travel to Gluckstadt, MS to take on the newly formed Germantown High School Mavericks (1-2).  Gametime is set for 7:30pm.  If you cannot make it to Madison County, tune in online to www.pcsbobcatssports.com for complete coverage of the game.  We will go on the air at 7:15pm.

August 22, 2011:

Presbyterian Christian opened their season last Friday night by traveling to Jackson Academy, the site of last season's final contest.  The 2011 Bobcat squad looked to avenge their playoff semi-final elimination and start on their path to a first ever state title in football.  However, the night would belong to the home-standing Raiders.

JA's stingy defense and several PCS turnovers opened the door for the Raiders to outpace the 'Cats by a score of 36-7.  Blake Graves scored the lone touchdown for the Bobcats on an exceptional run-after-catch play from fellow senior, Brandon Sullivan, who threw for 133 yards .  Hunter Hawkins also caught 8 passes for 67 yards.

The Bobcats look to get back to their winning ways next Friday, August 26th, when they welcome Simpson Academy to Bobcat Stadium in Hattiesburg.  We hope to see you there!

August 18, 2011:

This Friday's contest on the road versus Jackson Academy has been changed to a 7:30pm kick-off so make your travel plans accordingly.  For those of you who cannot make it to Jackson, tune in to www.pcsbobcatssports.com where we will be streaming the entire game for all you Bobcat fans across the globe!

Athletes of the Week

September 3, 2011:

This week's selections for Athletes of the Week are Erin Vincent and Blake Graves.

Erin is a senior softball captain from Hattiesburg, MS.  She is also a member of the track team in the spring and participates in FBLA.  While trying to repeat as State Champions this season, the Lady Bobcats have had a tough road.  Through all the ups and downs though, Erin has remained a steady presence in the dugout and at first base, despite playing injured part of the season.  She hopes to one day attend LSU and, who knows, maybe run into Tim Tebow somewhere down the road.

Blake is a senior football captain from Seminary, MS.  He has been a leader for Coach Hawkins program the last 2 years and a steady force at fullback and linebacker.  Blake also helps the track team in the spring.  Already this season Blake leads the Bobcats in touchdowns with 3 in 3 games, 2 of which came against Columbia Academy.  Ask anyone that has been around this program since his arrival and they will tell you that "Double Deuce" is the heart and soul of his team.

Great job you guys.  We look forward to watching you the rest of the season!

August 27, 2011:

This week's selections for Athletes of the Week are Micah Griffin and Elise Davis.

Elise is a senior soccer player originally from Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.  Elise has also made a name for herself in the classroom as she is a member of Senior Beta, Mu Alpha Theta, and the National Art Honors Society.  Her favorite sports memory was winning PCS' first ever girls soccer State Championship.  Elise is having a great senior campaign as she has already recorded 4 shutouts in 9 games.  More impressive is the fact that she has only allowed 7 goals while leading the Lady Bobcats to an 8-1 record.  We may have another Hope Solo on our hands here at PCS.

Micah is a junior football player from Hattiesburg, MS.  He also participates in track and basketball.  Micah surprised coaches across the state last year by establishing himself as a major defensive presence as just a sophomore for Coach Hawkins' squad.  Already this season, Micah has continued his progression and become a great leader for the varisty 'Cats.  In the Simpson Academy game, fans were witnessing #2 fly all over the field, haunting the Cougar offensive backfield and recording double-digit tackles.

Congrats and keep up the good effort!

August 20, 2011:

This week's selections for Athletes of the Week are Danielle Henley and Reagan Scoggin.

Reagan is a sophomore volleyball player from Ellisville, MS who also participates in varsity cheer. "Stilts", as she is referred to by her close friends, is interested in attending the University of Alabama and considers herself an avid Brett Favre fan...so much so that she has traveled to Minnesota to see him play.

Danielle Henley is also a sophomore from Hattiesburg, MS.  Danielle has made quite a name for herself on the pitch and, if you have seen any of the Lady Bobcat soccer matches this season, you can understand why.  She is tied for the team lead with 14 goals, is second on the team with 38 total points, and has 18 steals.  What is more impressive is that she is scoring at a phenomenal clip...25% of all shots taken have turned into points for her squad.

Great job, ladies and keep up the good work.  We are proud of how you represent PCS!

August 13, 2011:

One of the new features of our Athletic Updates page will be an "Athletes of the Week" piece.  With so many sports competing at the same time, it can be quite difficult to keep up with how our Bobcats are doing.  We will profile one female and one male athlete each week who have turned in outstanding performances on the field of play.  This week's athletes, both females as male sports have yet to start, are Kelsey Hannaford and Regan Dykes.  Congratulations, ladies!

Cross Country

October 5, 2011:

The latest Cross Country meet PCS participated in was the MC Invitational in Clinton, MS.  Our boys' and girls' teams both took 1st place in the competition! One other note is that Ramsay Stayer continued an already impressive season with yet another overall girls' title.  Keep up the good work, Bobcats!

September 6, 2011:

Coach Wayne Williams and his Bobcat Cross Country squad have started their 2011-2012 season and already have 4 meets under their belt.  Check out this PineBeltSports.com article by Josh Mlot profiling the recent success of your XC 'Cats.

September 25, 2011:

The PCS High School Swim Team competed in their first season meet this past Saturday, September 24 in Laurel, MS. The meet was hosted by West Jones High School and attended by 15 teams and over 275 swimmers. PCS placed 7th overall, finishing ahead of 5 and 6A public schools such as Hattiesburg HS, Gulfport HS, Pearl River Central HS, and Meridian HS. Leading the team in points was Griffin St. Louis (1st place 100 fly and 1st place 50 free), Spencer St. Louis (3rd place 100 backstroke and 8th place 100 free), James Dufour (6th place 100 breaststroke), Senior Boys Medley Relay Team, (Luke Archer, Griffin St. Louis, James Dufour, and Spencer St. Louis) 3rd place, Senior Girls Freestyle Relay (Megan Preusch, Abby Bradley, Morgan Domingue, Emma Barker) 14th place, and Senior Boys Freestyle Relay (Luke Archer, Griffin St. Louis, Walker Stayer, and John Brahan) 9th place.

Volleyball

September 30, 2011:

Season one of PCS Volleyball has just wrapped up and both of our team's have claimed Championship status!  Both squads traveled to Covenant Christian School in Jackson, MS to take part in the first ever MAIS volleyball tournament.  Our JV ladies won their division to claim the tournament championship.  The varsity squad breezed through their competition as well.  As soon as the All-Tournament teams are announced, we will post them on here as well.  Congratulations to all these athletes and to Coach Celeste Vial for all their success and we look forward to seeing this program grow even stronger in the coming years.

In case you haven't heard, PCS is one of the pioneer schools in the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools to introduce girls' volleyball into their athletic department this season.  Our Lady Bobcats have gotten off to a fast start and are already making a name for themselves.  With 6 games remaining this season, the 'Cats have posted 6 wins and have yet to lose to an MAIS opponent.  Other highlights of the inaugural season have been a victory against cross-town rival Sacred Heart and a 4-0 record versus JA, Jackson Prep, and MRA.  Remaining home games are: 9/8- PCS hosts Sacred Heart...9/22 PCS hosts Petal High School (Senior Night).  Remaining road games are: 9/10 PCS @ Magee High School...9/13 PCS @ MRA...9/17 MRA Tournament...9/20 PCS @ Jackson Prep.  If you have not made it out so see one of these games, we HIGHLY recommend you take the time to enjoy one.  Coach Celeste Vial is doing a remarkable job in starting this program.  Here is nice read on the program, courtesy of Josh Mlot and PineBeltSports.com

Girls Soccer

October 5, 2011:

The Lady Bobcat Soccer team has now entered post season play for the 2011 campaign.  Our 'Cats defeated Jackson Prep on the last night of the regular season, 2-0, to claim the #1 seed from the South AAA division.  Their first round opponent was Washington School from Greenville, MS.  PCS jumped out to an early lead in this contest and would not look back.  With hat tricks from Kelsey Hannaford and Danielle Henley, the Lady Bobcats advanced past the Lady Generals by a count of 10-0.  Next up for the 'Cats will be Starkville Academy, a team that PCS was able to defeat twice in the regular season.  This match up is expected to be a very intense one and should be entertaining to say the least.  PCS will play host in this playoff contest with the game being held at Tatum Park this Thursday, October 6th.  We hope to see everyone there!

August 12, 2011:

With the arrival of August, everyone’s mind is on one thing…the start of the school year.  With school beginning, many minds turn to all the athletic teams and contests that will soon commence.  One soccer program might be looking forward to beginning their year more than anyone else in the MAIS.  The PCS Lady Bobcats will look to build on a phenomenal 2010 campaign which saw them take home the AAA State Championship.  If you are a believer in pre-season polls and predictions, you might find the Clarion Ledger’s rankings interesting.  PCS’ Lady ‘Cats have been chosen to start this season right where they finished last year…number one.  The squad will return several key players including its top two scorers from a year ago, Kelsey Hannaford and Aubrey Upton.  This year’s edition of the Lady ‘Cats will have a different face on the sidelines, albeit a familiar one, as Coach Frank Smith returns to PCS.  Coach Smith coached the PCS Soccer program last in 2003 and is excited to help these ladies eagerly defend their crown.

The Lady Bobcats have already won their first five contests of the season and continue to cruise each time they take to the pitch.  In five games, the Lady Bobcats have only allowed one goal while managing to net an impressive 40 total goals.  Their next action will be Thursday, August 25th, as they travel to Starkville Academy.  Starkville will look to avenge their earlier 5-0 defeat in Hattiesburg.
