Speech I
1 Course Credit
Oral communication is fundamental to all other learning. By actively participating in a variety of speaking activities, students will gain the confidence and skills to overcome communication anxiety. A student who communicates well succeeds in social, economic, and academic environments. Effective oral communication provides readiness for the workplace and/or post-secondary education and is, therefore, a recommended elective for students in all career majors. This course studies such life skills as the interview, resume writing, nonverbal communication, etc.
Speech II (Forensics)
1 Course Credit
The Speech II course builds important communication skills that will enhance all aspects of the individual’s life. This course provides instruction in a variety of competitive speech events. Students research, develop, practice, and deliver their performances which include speeches, interpretations or dramatizations of literature, and debates.
*The course curriculum centers around the skills necessary to actively participate on the PCS Forensics Team. Therefore, Speech I is not a prerequisite to take Speech II.
Debate (Forensics) {Debate & Public Speaking}
1 Course Credit
The Debate course builds important communication skills that will enhance all aspects of the individual’s life. This course provides instruction in how to acquire, analyze, and evaluate information in order to organize effective arguments, and it provides practice in making those arguments. Skill in debate helps the individual to think logically, clearly, and quickly; and it makes a student able to identify flawed reasoning and argue persuasively. It also contributes to the student’s understanding of himself and his confidence in his own ability to analyze issues.
*The course curriculum centers around the skills necessary to actively participate on the PCS Forensics Team.
